I ended up finding my niche in leveraging the Social Media assets of the NSMBA and so far have contributed to the fund raising efforts ( It takes money and builders to build trials) by means of running the annual raffles that included the Knolly/NSMBA Bike and the Three Experience Raffle. I originally joined to participate in trail building and working as a volunteer at the Fivers but it looks like Covid had other plans. I have been on the Board for the last 2 years and am seeking re-election. My name is Ken Coopland nd I am a current Board Member of the NSMBA.

I want to leave the trails better than I have found them and hopefully add a voice and a hand where is needed.

What is your vision for the NSMBA in 2022?Īs someone who needs to learn my way around NSMBA I want to keep my vision simple. I am quick to pivot when needed and pride myself on being a team player. I am well equipped to put together plans that I believe in and take them as far as I need to go. I am also a strong advocate when required. I think of things as a puzzle and work on the problem until I am able to make it fit. My experience being mostly logistical makes me an active problem solver. Tell us about your experiences/accreditations/competencies which pertain to those being sought for the 2022 Board of Directors. This has allowed me a portfolio built solely on referrals and currently sitting as the largest in the office. My history is in sales which has allowed me to take a different approach in my customer service. I pride myself on coming up with unique ideas and solutions while always keeping my clients’ happiness in the forefront.
#CHEQUEBOOK BIKERS HOW TO#
My specialties have always been on the event side as I am not daunted by large numbers of people and how to make them all fit. I organize large scale travel projects for companies, rotational travel, conferences, training and yearly events. I work in Corporate Travel and have done for the last 11 years. During covid I rode more than ever before, learned how to make bread and enjoyed an 18 month mat leave with my kiddo who spent much of it on my back in the great outdoors. I pride myself in being a reliable friend, employee and partner/mom. There is little I am unable to accomplish if my mind is set on it. The skills I bring to the table are all centred on organization, efficiency, passion, dedication and persistence. My most peaceful moments have always been found in the forrest and most often on the bike. I was so touched and excited by the community, I wanted to give back what was freely given to me. I quickly became an active and enthusiastic ride lead with the muddbunnies. My love for biking started 7 years ago as I became a North Shore Local. I would like to see better relationships between land managers and trail builders to see that existing trails can be better maintained and development of new trails are planned for the future. My vision for next season is to further engage the community with social events through the NSMBA and COVID depending allow for social rides. What is your vision for the NSMBA in 2022? My experiences trail building, social events and project management would allow me to help further grow the NSMBA. I feel the community aspect of mountain biking on the North Shore is strong and would like to see it get even stronger. I tend to get out on my bike as often as possible during the riding season and enjoy sharing new trails with friends. I have also volunteered at music festivals and Crankworx as well in the past. I have been a building commissioning provider for 10 years and I have volunteered through the NSMBA with trail building and social events for the since 2014. This allowed riders to experience new trails they might not have ridden and allowed to meet new people.

I also am a volunteer trail builder for the NSMBA and this year have organized social rides with a small group of friends that followed the existing FIVER series in a non race format. I believe there is a correlation between dealing with owners of buildings and dealing with land owners on the trails. I have been involved in managing projects and feel that this can also translate to projects through the NSMBA. Senior Commissioning Coordinator Tell us about yourself and any qualities you possess which would support you in being a successful NSMBA Director in 2022.Īs a commissioning provider my day to day tasks are managing various construction projects and dealing with owners, designers and contractors.
